Played 325 games (1974-1989)
He began his career as a centre with the Parramatta Eels, but Geoff Gerard developed into one of the longest-serving fowards in the Game. A Parramatta junior with the Cabramatta club, Gerard began his first grade career in 1974 and, in a team that just narrowly avoided the wooden spoon, he won the club's Rookie of the Year.
After playing his early games in the backs, Gerard was moved to the forwards and his game really took off in 1975 when the Eels made the finals. But it was in the 1976 decider against the Sea Eagles that gerard stood tall, scoring a try in the match which was won narrowly by Manly.
Gerard had arguably his best-ever season in 1978, culminating in him winning a Player of the Year award and being selected for that year's Kangaroo tour. In what many would acll a serious case of bad timing, Gerard moved to Manly in 1981, where he shifted to the front row with great success. Unfortunately for him, 1981 saw his former club win what would be the first of three successive Grand Finals. In 1982 and 1983, Gerard was a member of the Manly side beaten by the Eels. In 1985, Gerard headed west to Penrith. He retired in 1989, but not before he became the inaugural member of the 300 Club.
