AMP General Insurance has extended their major sponsorship of the Men of League Foundation for a further two years, amid the increasing pressures of the global financial crisis.
AMP have been the major sponsor of the Foundation for five years with the new deal ensuring a seven year association between one of Australia’s largest financial institutions and the largest retired sporting charity in Australia.
Managing Director of AMP General Insurance, Mr Brian Fulmer, says that the economic downturn has increased the need for benevolent support:
“In times like these, organizations like AMP should continue to support charities such as the Men of League Foundation who look after and care for people less fortunate than ourselves.
“What the Men of League has been able to achieve for the sick and disadvantaged is outstanding. AMP are thrilled to be able to do our bit to help such a wonderful cause. We are delighted to be continuing this great partnership.”
The Men of League Foundation now has over 9,500 members and over 150 voluntary staff who make up 13 local committees from Bundaberg and Townsville in the North of Queensland to Forbes and Canberra in the Central West of NSW. This network helps identify those in need and raise funds for the cause.
Since inception in 2002, the Men of League Foundation has been able to assist over 250 individuals with over $700,000 in grant assistance and have made over 150 visits to the sick and dying in hospitals and nursing homes across NSW, Queensland and the UK. The Foundation has also donated or fundraised over $1,000,000 for other charities and junior Rugby League clubs.
Men of League President, Ron Coote AM, attributes much of this growth and success of the Foundation to the AMP relationship.
“A charitable Foundation like the Men of League is only as strong as the support it receives from its sponsors and members. I can’t thank AMP enough - they have been so supportive and loyal for over five years now.
AMP’s decision to extend their sponsorship of the Men of League for a further two years says so much for ethos and ideals of our Foundation and the great work we have been able to do.
The Men of League is all about helping their mates in need. With the global economic situation already filtering down to the man on the street, there’s going to be a lot more people in need of help over the coming months.”
