Chris ‘Choppy’ Close-Played 3 Tests for Australia in 1980-85, 14 games for QLD 1979-86, 96 games for Manly 1982-87 and 67 games for Gold Coast in 1988-91.
While playing for Redcliffe Close was selected in the Australian team to tour New Zealand in 1980. He was man of the match numerous time throughout his State of Origin career.
Peter Leis-A tough, hard playing centre for Redcliffe held the club record until only recently for the most number of games played for Redcliffe- 261. Leis holds the record for the most tries at the club of 127.
Ian “Bunny” Pearce-Pearce was a dashing, goal kicking fullback. Records include; 150 games for the club, Most points in a season- 281 in 1978, Most goals in a season- 118 in 1978, most goals for the club- 581, most points for the club- 1342, Rothmans Medal winner in 1978, Courier Mail Player of the Year 1978, BRL Player of the Year 1977-78.
Bunny was tragically killed in a freak accident in 1993.
Tony Obst-Hard as nails centre and fullback. Played 230 games for Redcliffe and was awarded the Rothman’s medial in 1980 as well as Courier Mail’s Player of the Year.
Arthur Beetson-Originally from Roma, played in Redcliffe’s first Grand Final in 1965.
Beetson played 14 Tests for Aus and lead Aus to victory in the 1975 World Cup. Beetson played 18 games for New South Wales 1966-77 and 3 for QLD 1980-81. He captained the 1980 QLD team. Beetson then went on to coach QLD 1981-84 and 1989-90 and Australia in 1983.
Accolades include; Australian Sports Medal in 2000, Centenary Medal in 2001, Inducted into the ARL Hall of Fame in 2003, 2004 became the seventh Immortal of the game. 2008 Beetson was named in top 100 players of the Rugby League Centenary and then in the Front Row of the Team of the Century.
