Wesley Fouracre

Wesley Fouracre is the first grant recipient with the Foundation to recieve assistance from Sporting Chance - Men of League Cancer Fund.

24-year-old Wesley Fouracre was admitted to hospital on Boxing Day 2008 after being diagnosed with leukemia. The former Gunnedah local now resides at Bluehaven on the Central Coast with his fiancée Amy and their two children Maya, four, and Jack, 12 months. Wesley is currently undergoing his second round of chemotherapy treatment at Newcastle’s Martyr Hospital.

The first round of Chemo went for 36 days, the current treatment will last 28 days, followed by another 36 days of treatment. Each dose is separated by a four week break that allows the body to recover.

The Men of League Foundation Grants Committee put forward a recommendation that the Sporting Chance - Men of League Cancer Fund would cover twelve weeks rent for Wesley and his family as well as food vouchers to assist with the groceries as the plumbing apprentice is obviously unable to work while undergoing chemotherapy.

Wes played all his junior football from the Under 8s with Gunnedah Junior League and then Under 16s, Under 18s and Reserve Grade with Gunnedah RLFC in the Group 4 competition. Wes says “I didn’t really have a set position, I played most positions, so long as I got a run.”

“We won a couple of comps in the junior grades and I’m still good mates with the boys I played with in Gunnedah. Before I got crook I would go home every couple of months to catch up with the boys.”

Wes is extremely grateful for what the Men of League has done. “I would like to thank the Men of League for all their support. It is greatly appreciated as it has really helped. Thank you.”
