Robert Burns

A letter from Warren Thompson

“On Behalf of Bob Burns we write to express his sincere gratitude to the grants committee for the grants received namely a computer and motorise chair.
Bob has lived without complaining for many years with very little assistance. He is overwhelmed by the support of Men of League and his old mates. The computer allows him to keep in touch with the world as well as a tool for ordering his food and grocery needs. The chair is much superior in comfort and mobility than his old manual wheelchair and will give him the opportunity to get out of the room at Salvation Army Hostel where he resides.
Bob was an excellent lock forward in many successful Chelsea United teams and played all his football from 12 years of age to A grade with the same club in South Sydney Junior League. He represented NSW schools in both rugby league and cricket from the Paddington School in the same year.
Since we commenced our “Old mates Day” in June 2010 many of his former teammates have learnt how Bob was doing it tough and have been behind Ken Vessey, Col Downing and myself in assisting Bob in being more comfortable. We had previously lost touch with him and now after many years it is very satisfying to see the mateship kick in and we will be informing all concerned of the wonderful contribution made to Bob by Men of League.
Thanks once again to you Men of League Foundation for your kind consideration and generosity in vastly improving the day to day comforts of Bob Burns”
