Men of League were saddened by the news of former Canterbury player and police cadet Jeffrey “Doc” Halliday passing late October, who was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease early in the year and had been battling with the disease over several months.
In October Men of League vice president Jim Hall visited Jeff at his home in Haberfield. During the visit Jeff who is... well known in police force as “Doc”, shared alot of yarns with Jim about the characters they both came across during their time at the force and in league such as Bobby Scarf, Gary Hughes, Tony Herring, Don “the ninja” Hobson to name a few. Halliday spoke about the time when Kevin Roberts refereed the reserve grade grand final match, South Sydney played Canterbury Berries. Doc said, “it was the last minute of the match and we were attacking and near their try line and if we scored we would win the game and as we were near they try line, 'Bilko' called the game off and walked off the field with time still left, I could never forget that day the former detective stitched us up, as he laughed.”
He is survived by his wife Kay and two sons, Chad and Shane, who both followed their father’s footstep in former league players as Chad played three seasons with Penrith Panthers (2000-03) and Shane former player for the Leichardt club. They have also followed their career in the police force as well.
The Men of League extend our deepest sympathies to Arthur's family and many friends.
