PRESS RELEASE

Sydney will farewell immortal indigenous rugby league player Arthur Beetson this Sunday the 18th December. A tribute has been organised at the SCG, the scene that witnessed some of Arthur’s greatest triumphs. The memorial will coincide with a service being held at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Hosted by a combined effort of the Sydney Roosters, Men of League, National Rugby League, the Balmain Tigers and the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, gates will open to the public at 12.30pm and admission is free.

Men of League Chairman Ron Coote summed up Arthur’s passing in saying “I had the wonderful privilege to play both against Arthur and with him as a team mate and I can assure you he commanded respect both on and off the football field. Arthur Beetson will be sadly missed.”

Radio 2GB will broadcast live from the memorial with presenter Darryl Brohman issuing this statement “Broadcasting live from Arthur’s memorial is an honour that I would not miss for the world. To recognise him in this manner reflects what a terrific bloke he was. To be there will be an absolute delight”.

The memorial will include tributes from indigenous leaders, former team mates’ entertainers and video footage.

The celebration of Arthur’s life including his wonderful achievements will be hosted by rugby league commentator Ray Warren.
